Frequently Asked Questions
The short version of how 238 browser tools work, what they cost and what they do with your files. If your question is not answered here, the contact page is one click away.
Do my files get uploaded to a server?
No. Every tool runs entirely inside your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your PDFs, photos and documents never leave your device, which is why there are no queues, no daily limits and no account required.
Is ScanMaster really free?
Yes — all browser tools are free with no signup, no watermark added by us, and no file-count limit beyond a sensible 50-file / 100 MB per-batch safety cap.
What file formats are supported?
PDF plus JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF, SVG and HEIC/HEIF images, and text formats such as TXT, MD, HTML, CSV, JSON and RTF. Each tool page lists exactly what it accepts, and the formats page gives the full matrix.
Why do some tools say “Partial” or “Coming soon”?
A few operations — faithful Word/Excel/PowerPoint conversion, PDF linearization, ML background removal — need server-side engines such as LibreOffice or a GPU model. We label those honestly instead of quietly handing you back an unconverted file.
Can I use ScanMaster on a phone?
Yes. The whole site is responsive and camera capture (Scan to PDF) is built for phones. Because processing is local, large files stay fast on modern mobile browsers too.
Is it safe to process confidential documents?
For browser tools, yes: nothing is transmitted. Your browser's own memory holds the file, and closing the tab discards it. Sanitize, Redact and Remove Metadata tools exist specifically for pre-sharing cleanup.
Do you store my recent tools or settings?
Only in your browser's localStorage — theme choice, recently used tools and your My Space favourites. Nothing is sent anywhere and you can clear it at any time from My Space.
Why is my PDF to Word output plain text?
PDF has no concept of “paragraphs” or “reflow”; it stores positioned glyphs. We rebuild the reading order and give you DOCX, TXT, HTML, Markdown or RTF, but exact magazine-style layout needs a desktop conversion engine.
Can I use these tools commercially?
Yes. ScanMaster does not claim rights over your documents and adds no watermark, so the output is yours to use, sign, publish or file however you like.
Why does a big PDF make my browser tab slow?
Rendering pages to images is memory-hungry and it happens in your tab. Compress in ranges, close other tabs, or split a very large document first — Split PDF exists for exactly that.
Do you work offline?
Once a tool page has loaded, its processing code is already on your machine, so the work itself continues without a connection. Loading new pages or a first visit needs the network.
How do I report a bug or request a tool?
Email support@scanmaster.site with the tool URL, your browser, and the on-screen or console error. Details are on the contact page.
Still stuck?
Errors from a local tool are almost always visible in the browser console (F12), which makes them quick to diagnose — see the security and troubleshooting notes. For everything else, email support with the tool URL and your browser version.
