Supported Formats
Every row below is computed from the live tool registry — the same data that drives each tool page — so it cannot drift out of date. Where a format needs more than a browser can honestly do, the row says so.
Document formats
| Format | Tools that read it | Tools that write it | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 116 | 112 | — |
Image formats
| Format | Tools that read it | Tools that write it | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| JPG / JPEG | 71 | 60 | — |
| JPEG | 71 | 43 | — |
| PNG | 71 | 67 | — |
| WebP | 69 | 49 | — |
| AVIF | 68 | — | Decode support varies by browser; encode is universal. |
| GIF | 68 | — | First frame only — animations are not preserved. |
| BMP | 67 | — | — |
| TIFF | 68 | — | Decoded locally with utif2. |
| SVG | 68 | 4 | Rasterised to PNG/JPG on load; not a pixel source. |
| HEIC / HEIF | 69 | — | Converted in-browser with heic-to (iPhone photos). |
| ICO | 62 | 1 | Written as a multi-size favicon set. |
Text formats
| Format | Tools that read it | Tools that write it | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plain text | 6 | 8 | — |
| Markdown | 6 | 1 | Rendered with marked, then laid out as text — headings stay as blocks, inline styling is dropped. |
| HTML | 5 | 1 | Tags and CSS are stripped to clean text and re-flowed onto the page; visual layout is not reproduced. |
| CSV | 4 | 4 | Quoted fields parsed and printed as a monospace-aligned table. |
| JSON | 3 | 3 | Re-indented with two spaces and printed in a monospace font; invalid JSON is rejected with a clear error. |
| RTF | 3 | 1 | Text extracted; rich styling is not reproduced. |
Office formats
| Format | Tools that read it | Tools that write it | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Word DOCX | 4 | 2 | We write DOCX natively. Reading a DOCX back into PDF faithfully needs LibreOffice — that tool is labelled Coming soon. |
| Excel XLSX | 4 | — | CSV is the reliable path; XLSX fidelity needs a server engine. |
| PowerPoint PPTX | 4 | 2 | Needs a server engine; labelled Coming soon rather than faked. |
Picking the right tool for a format
The most reliable starting points: JPG to PDF, JPEG to PDF, PNG to PDF, WEBP to PDF. Each tool page lists exactly the extensions it accepts and produces, and validates the file type by content — not just by name — before processing starts.
Limits that apply to every format
- 100 MB maximum per file, 50 files per batch — browser memory, not a paywall.
- Encrypted PDFs must be unlocked first (Unlock PDF) before other tools can read them.
- Password-protected Office files are not supported.
