Image Background Remover
Beta
One-click background removal.
In-browser color/edge-based removal: works excellently on solid or near-solid backgrounds (portraits on studio color, product shots). Complex backgrounds need an ML model served from a GPU backend — coming when a server tier exists.
About Image Background Remover
Remove an image background in the browser using colour and edge analysis, which is genuinely excellent on a solid or near-solid backdrop — a portrait shot against studio colour, a product on white, a document scan with a grey surround. On a busy, detailed background it stops short, and this page tells you so rather than promising a studio cut-out.
Cutting a product or a headshot out of its studio background for a catalogue or a form.
How to use Image Background Remover in 3 steps
- Drop the photo onto the drop area — one subject against a fairly plain background works best.
- Adjust Tolerance until the area you want gone is selected without eating into the subject.
- Cut out and download the PNG with a transparent background.
What you get with Image Background Remover
- Runs locally, so a portrait is never uploaded for editing
- Tolerance control to decide how much near-colour counts as background
- Output is PNG with alpha, ready to drop onto a new backdrop
- Works well on ID photos, product shots and logos on flat colour
- Free to use, with no signup and no account
- No watermark or logo added to your output
- Works on desktop and mobile, no install
Image Background Remover: questions
- Why is my background only partly removed?
- The detector matches colours near the sampled background. Shadows, gradients and reflections sit further away — raise the Tolerance, or even out the lighting when you shoot.
- It ate into my subject's hair. Can I fix that?
- Lower the Tolerance. Fine, translucent detail like hair against a similar tone is the honest limit of colour-based removal; that is what a segmentation model is for, and this site does not pretend to run one.
- What can't Image Background Remover do?
- In-browser color/edge-based removal: works excellently on solid or near-solid backgrounds (portraits on studio color, product shots). Complex backgrounds need an ML model served from a GPU backend — coming when a server tier exists. That limit is stated on the page and in the alert above the tool, not buried in a footnote.
- Can I put a new background on instead?
- Yes — Image Background Color Changer swaps the backdrop to a chosen colour in one pass, which is the usual need for ID photos.
- Is the output really transparent?
- Yes, saved as PNG with an alpha channel. JPG has no transparency, so anything flattened to JPG will show white behind it.
