About PDF to Word

Convert a PDF to Word by reading the document's own text layer and reflowing it into an editable .docx. Paragraphs, headings and line order come through (complex layout, columns and images are not repositioned exactly), so you can revise a contract or a report without retyping it — and the file never leaves your browser.

Getting editable text out of a PDF you were sent, without retyping it.

How to use PDF to Word in 3 steps

  1. Drop the PDF you want to edit in Word.
  2. Start the conversion and let the text layer be read and rebuilt.
  3. Download the .docx and open it in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice.

What you get with PDF to Word

  • Text comes from the PDF's embedded text layer, not a retyped guess
  • Output is a real .docx that opens in Word, Docs and LibreOffice
  • Runs locally, so a confidential document is not uploaded to a converter
  • Free to use, with no signup and no account
  • No watermark or logo added to your output
  • Works on desktop and mobile, no install

PDF to Word: questions

How faithful is the layout?
Text-based: paragraphs and lines are preserved, but complex layout, columns and images are not repositioned exactly. If you need the page to look identical, work from the original document instead.
Can I convert a scanned PDF to Word?
Not directly — a scan has no text layer to read. Run OCR PDF first to create searchable text, then convert that output.
What can't PDF to Word do?
Text-based conversion: paragraphs and lines are preserved, but complex layout, columns and images are not repositioned exactly. That limit is stated on the page and in the alert above the tool, not buried in a footnote.
Why is my Word file one long column?
Multi-column PDFs are stored as positioned glyphs, so the reading order can flatten. For two-column documents, converting page images and retyping headings is often faster than fixing a bad reflow.
Does it keep fonts and styling?
It keeps the text and its basic structure. Exact typography depends on the fonts being available on your machine, which a PDF never guarantees.
