Unlock PDF
Remove password protection using the document password.
About Unlock PDF
Unlock a PDF using the password you already have. Type the document password, and the tool writes an unprotected copy with the same pages, text and images — so you can then edit, merge, compress or flatten it without a reader demanding a key.
Working on a locked PDF you own — a bank statement, a contract copy, an old protected report.
How to use Unlock PDF in 3 steps
- Drop the password-protected PDF onto the drop area.
- Enter the document password that opens it today.
- Remove the protection and download the unlocked copy.
What you get with Unlock PDF

- Page content, text layer and embedded images are carried over unchanged
- The password is used in your browser and never sent anywhere
- Free to use, with no signup and no account
- No watermark or logo added to your output
- Works on desktop and mobile, no install
Unlock PDF: questions
- Can you remove a password I do not know?
- No. This tool applies the password you have; it does not break encryption, and no honest tool can. If you have lost the password, the owner password on the original file is the way back in.
- Will the unlocked file look different?
- No. It is the same document with the security handler removed, so printing and viewing are identical.
- Why does my PDF still refuse to edit after unlocking?
- Editing restrictions come from the owner password and permissions, not the open password. Unlock removes the file's protection; if a specific restriction persists, re-save it with Protect PDF and the permissions you want.
